Bruxism, the involuntary or habitual grinding of the teeth, typically during sleep… which can cause jaw pain, headaches, damage teeth and more, may be helped with the use of Botox, as discussed at the Daily Beast.

The discussion referenced a report found much improvement when given Botox versus a placebo for a small sample group of bruxism sufferers. Is was also discussed how Botox blocks nerve signals to the muscle where it’s injected, so the muscle relaxes or, depending on how much Botox is used, stops contracting.”

A previously published study in The Journal of the American Dental Association talked about treating bruxism with the use of “locally administered botulinum toxin, or BTX.” Major results in the study were that “BTX administered by skilled practitioners is a safe and effective treatment for people with severe bruxism, particularly those with associated movement disorders.”

Included at the ADA 2018 – America’s Dental Meeting’s pre-session is a course on Botox. Registration is available at ADA.org/meeting.
